KMC renames Suhrawardy Avenue as Gopal Mukherjee Road; CM Suvendu hails "historic decision"
An acrimonious war of words has broken out between former Trinamool Congress (TMC) colleagues, following Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra's sharp public mockery of the newly launched Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI). The online sparring match prompted an equally fierce retaliation from former TMC MP Kakoli Dastidar Ghosh, highlighting the deeply personal animosities surfacing after the party's devastating defeat in the recent West Bengal Assembly elections.
The intense exchange unfolds against the backdrop of an unprecedented institutional crisis within the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC. The party's recent electoral failure sparked a massive internal mutiny, resulting in twenty sitting members of parliament abandoning the outfit to join the newly formed NCPI. This mass exodus has raised significant red flags regarding the TMC's internal cohesion and its future structural viability in the region, with the party leadership aggressively targeting the defectors.
Taking to social media on Sunday, Mahua Moitra shared a screenshot of the NCPI's fresh Facebook page to publicly lampoon the fledgling political group. Highlighting the page's bio, which claims the outfit aims to help the poor people of society, Moitra aggressively branded the defectors as "traitors." She cynically remarked that she hoped the new organization would manage to help those "twenty not-so-poor traitors" who were originally elected entirely on the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) symbol.
Kakoli Dastidar Ghosh, a key figure in the parliamentary rebellion who is now closely aligned with the NCPI, fired back directly by invoking the highly sensitive RG Kar hospital controversy. Ghosh fiercely questioned Moitra's own moral standing and allegiance to governance, asking if she stood by "Abhaya," who tragically lost her life while protesting the systemic misuse of funds intended for the drug purchases of impoverished patients. The public mudslinging underscores a rapidly deteriorating relationship between TMC loyalists and the powerful rebel faction.
